WE - General

A good working environment is important in itself, but it is also an important precondition for maintaining a low major accident risk. To understand the causes of major accidents - and thus be able to implement effective measures - the factors which are mutually dependent upon each other, technology, management systems, organisation, people and culture, must be considered together. Human factors are an important discipline connecting working environment conditions and major accident risk.

Skipstad HMS provide specialist working environment competency to small and large projects. Our methods are suitable for evaluation of equipment, skids, process plants, living quarters, offshore installations etc.

We believe in systematic and structured work processes as this will ensure efficient and predictable deliverables. We take on responsibility to deliver safe, efficient and user-friendly designs.

Ultimate goal:

Provide facilities that support operations and provide a healthy environment for happy and safe workers.

In General

Working Environment (WE) activities should be carried out in all project phases. In early stages (concept definition, FEED) lack of design details will be the limiting factor and experience transfer is then important input. As the concept matures and the project proceeds, more details will be available, and the WE activities can be performed and documented with less uncertainty.

As the design develops the WE activities should be repeated in an iterative process. Documentation will mature during the project phases, and result in a comprehensive “As Built” status report that verify compliance with PSA regulations, NORSOK and Company specific requirements.

The WE activities should be performed to identify and assess occupational safety, health risk and areas of concern associated with the various WE factors such as:

  • Noise and Vibration
  • Acoustics
  • Illumination
  • Radiation
  • Electromagnetic Fields
  • Chemical health risk
  • Ergonomics
  • Manual handling and lifting
  • Arrangements/means of access
  • Thermal Climate
  • Outdoor operations/WCI
  • Hygiene
  • Psychosocial working environment
  • Organization and manning
